ASPIRE - The Nexus of Industry and Academia

Formation of Aspire

In 2016, the Ministry of Education entrusted IIT Bombay with a pivotal mission: to establish the Research Park within the sprawling campus in Powai, Mumbai. Thus, ASPIRE – the IIT Bombay Research Park Foundation (IITB RPF) was born, a non-profit entity dedicated to catalyzing innovation and research for tangible outcomes. Drawing inspiration from successful global research parks, ASPIRE emerges as the epicenter, seamlessly connecting knowledge, expertise, and resources to nurture a robust industry-academia ecosystem globally.

What Do We Do At ASPIRE?

Cultivating R&D partnerships which transform into an innovation hub, advancing technologies for societal impact. Our industry-centric workspaces facilitate collaborative development, while students gain invaluable corporate research exposure, enriching the nation’s talent pool. It’s a dynamic ecosystem where academia, industry, and students converge for impactful innovation and academic excellence.

Inauguration of ASPIRE-IIT Bombay Research Park

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the G+14 floor ASPIRE- IIT Bombay Research Park on February 20, 2024. The 5 lakh sq ft facility, with dignitaries present, signifies a pivotal step in promoting innovation and marks a significant milestone in advancing innovation and collaboration between academia and industry.

Indo - French R&D Seminar

The ‘Indo-French R&D Seminar,’ conducted by IIT Bombay Research Park Foundation-ASPIRE, in collaboration with the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) and The French Institute in India, was a resounding success.

Conclave on Sustainability

We hosted this with 194 attendees, featuring talks, parallel sessions, and a poster competition. This event was honoured by Chief Guest, Dr M. Ravichandran, Hon’ble Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. The panel discussion highlighted the need for sector-specific strategies and local approaches to address Sustainable Development Goals.

A milestone! Five years of seamlessly connecting industry and academia, fostering growth, innovation, and impactful outcomes.

Launch of Associate Model

ASPIRE launched its Associate Model, facilitating virtual modes of collaboration and opening new avenues for industry-academia partnerships.

Bhoomi Pujan

The foundation stone for the Research Park building at IIT Bombay was laid on 10th October 2018. Construction progresses steadily, marking a significant milestone towards a state-of-the-art research facility set to commence operations by early 2022.

Client Onboarding

The year 2017 witnessed the inception of enriching interactions with a diverse array of companies across the science and technology sectors. This laid the groundwork for mutually beneficial partnerships, fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Incorporation of IIT Bombay Research Park Foundation

On June 28th, 2016, the non-profit entity, IITB RPF, was born. An initiative by IIT Bombay, supported by the Ministry of Education, laid the groundwork for collaborative innovation.

The Beginning

ASPIRE’s story kicks off! On October 22nd, 2015, the logo was unveiled. On the same day, Applied Materials became the Research Park’s first anchor client, setting the stage for numerous collaborations that aimed at propelling research and development to new heights.
